Real examples

These are actual posts, playing right here. Watch each one twice: once normally, once with the sound off just looking at the text and the cuts. Filter by what you're working on.

The three moves

1. Pick the track first, then cut

No more finishing a video and then dropping a trending sound on top. Grab a song you actually like, put it on the timeline before anything else, and cut to it.

Mark the beats. CapCut Desktop: click the audio, Beats, Auto-generate. Premiere or Resolve: play it and tap M on the downbeats.
Cuts land on the beat. Not every beat, that gets frantic. Every bar or two, and it feels on purpose.
Text pops and zoom-ins land on the hits. The point of the video lands on the drop, or wherever the song changes.
End on a beat. No fade-outs. Keep the music under your voice; if you can't hear yourself on a phone speaker, it's too loud.

2. Small things that make it feel better

Subtle zoom-in when you make a point. Four to eight percent over six to ten frames, ease out, on the word that matters. Two or three per video.
Slow push on the intro. Three to five percent across the whole shot.
Hard punch on a cut. Jump from 100 to 120 percent. Reads like a second camera and hides the jump cut. Shoot in 4K so it stays sharp.
Cut tight. Trim the breaths. Something should change every two to four seconds.
Show the app big. Crop to the part you're talking about, zoom into the button, make the taps visible.
One accent at a time. An underline, an arrow, a number counting up. Brand color. No glow, no drop shadow.
Light. A key light or a window at 45 degrees, a bit above eye level. Ceiling light off.
End so it loops. Last frame looks like the first. The call to action is text over the payoff.

3. Typography hooks

The first second is a text hook, and it should look designed, not like a caption preset. No yellow, no stroke, no bounce. One or two fonts, small moves, ease out, then it stops. Four looks that work for us:

Serif dropInstrument Serif. Fades up, half a second, then holds.

Mono kickerSmall mono label, a rule, then the line. Reads like the app.

Most of this is easier on a computer. CapCut Desktop is free and does all of it. If you can pull it off on your phone, fine. Show me.

Captions, done right

The captions are half the look. Here's the spec. It's short on purpose.

One font, maybe two. A clean sans for the captions (Inter, SF, Helvetica Neue, Figtree). A serif for hooks and the occasional emphasis word (Instrument Serif, Fraunces). That's it.
White or off-white, no stroke. If the text is hard to read, darken the footage behind it with a soft gradient, not an outline.
Small chunks. Three to five words on screen at a time, timed to what you're saying. Word by word is fine if it's quiet about it: a fade, not a bounce.
Placement. Upper-middle for hooks, just below center for captions. Never the bottom fifth or the right edge, that's where the platform puts its own buttons.
Emphasis is weight or a serif italic word, not a color change and not an emoji.
Sentence case. Not ALL CAPS. Lowercase everything works too if the whole video does it.
Size. Big enough to read on a phone at arm's length, small enough that it doesn't cover your face. Around 5 to 6 percent of the frame height for captions, double that for a hook.
Let it breathe. Not every sentence needs a caption. The pauses with no text on screen are part of the rhythm.

A couple of subtle zoom-ins on the points that matter.
App shown big and readable on a phone.
Music under your voice. No vocals under talking.
Watched it once on your phone with sound, once muted.
Ends on a beat. No fade-out.
